Before you read

This guide is general information for parents, not medical advice or a diagnosis. If your child is seriously unwell, struggling to breathe, very drowsy, or has a high fever that worries you, seek urgent care or call 1990 (Suwa Seriya) now.

What a paediatrician does

A paediatrician is a doctor who specialises in the health of babies, children and adolescents. They support healthy growth and development, manage childhood illnesses, and guide families through vaccinations and milestones.

Common reasons to see one

  • Vaccinations and routine well-child checks.
  • Growth and development concerns: weight, height, feeding, speech or behaviour.
  • Recurrent or persistent illness, such as frequent infections, an ongoing cough, or tummy trouble.
  • Newborn care questions in the early weeks.
  • Reassurance, when you simply want a specialist's view.

Seeing a paediatrician is not a sign something is wrong. Many visits are routine and preventive.

Warning signs that need urgent care

Trust your instincts as a parent. Seek care quickly for difficulty breathing, a fever in a very young baby, repeated vomiting, a rash that does not fade when pressed, unusual drowsiness, or poor feeding. When in doubt, have your child seen.

Making the visit count

  • Bring the child health development record (the growth chart booklet), vaccination records and any previous reports.
  • Note when symptoms started and what you have noticed.
  • Write down your questions so the consultation goes further.

Finding a paediatrician

On Docranka you can find paediatricians by city and hospital and read genuine experiences from other parents. Reviews reflect the experience of care, such as communication, patience and reassurance, not clinical outcomes. Your child's doctor is always the right person to decide what is needed.
