How Patient Reviews Help You Choose a Doctor

Genuine experiences from other patients can guide your decision. Here is how to read reviews wisely and respectfully.

Why reviews help

When you are choosing care for yourself or your family, the experience of other patients is one of the most human signals you have. A genuine review tells you whether a doctor listened patiently, explained clearly, and treated people with kindness, the things qualifications alone cannot show.

What a review can and cannot tell you

A review can tell you about communication, waiting time, the clarity of an explanation, and how cared-for someone felt. A review cannot confirm a diagnosis, prove negligence, or measure clinical skill. On Docranka, reviews describe the experience of care; they are personal opinions, not medical facts or endorsements.

How to read reviews wisely

  • Read several, not one. Look for patterns across many experiences rather than reacting to a single strong opinion.
  • Prefer specific, calm reviews. "Explained my options clearly and answered every question" is more useful than "best doctor ever" or an angry rant.
  • Notice the context. A long wait at a busy government clinic is different from one at a private channelling centre.
  • Weigh recent reviews more. Practice and circumstances change over time.

How we keep reviews genuine

Every review on Docranka is read by our team before it is published, against a clear Review Policy. We publish honest experiences, including civil low-rated ones, but we never generate, buy, or fabricate a rating. Star scores come only from real, published patients, and each person may review a given doctor once.

Writing your own review, gratitude-first

If a doctor helped you, your honest words can guide the next family. Describe the experience, not a diagnosis. Please leave out anyone's private health details, and keep serious concerns, such as allegations of harm, for the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) rather than a public review. Honesty matters more than positivity; a calm, low rating with a clear reason is welcome.

The bottom line

Use reviews as one honest signal among several, with qualifications, specialty, location and fees being the others, and confirm the details that matter directly before you book.
