What to Check Before Channelling a Doctor

A simple pre-booking checklist

Channelling a doctor in Sri Lanka is quick, but a few checks beforehand save time, money and a wasted trip.

1. The right specialty

Confirm the doctor's field matches your need. If you are unsure, ask your family doctor, or use our Doctor Finder for a suggested starting point. It never diagnoses; it only points to a type of care.

2. Registration and qualifications

Check that the doctor is registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) and holds qualifications relevant to your concern. Specialist training is usually through the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM).

3. Location and hospital

Confirm which hospital or channelling centre the doctor practises at, and that you can reach it on the consultation day.

4. Day, time and fee

Consultation days, session times and channelling fees vary. Confirm the current fee and expected waiting time with the centre; listings can fall out of date.

5. Language

Make sure you share a language you are both comfortable in, so nothing important is lost.

6. What to bring

• Previous reports, scans and prescriptions.
• A list of your current medicines.
• Your questions, written down.

7. Read recent patient experiences

A few genuine, recent reviews give you a feel for communication and waiting time. Read several and look for patterns, not one strong opinion.

After you book

Arrive a little early, bring your records, and do not hesitate to ask the doctor to repeat or explain anything. If your symptoms worsen before the appointment, seek urgent care rather than waiting.
